Saturday 29 April 2017 – Donald Trump marks 100 days in office

Today marks 100 days since Donald Trump became President of the United States on 20 January!  It has been a tumultuous 100 days but in terms of achievements, Donald Trump has achieved none of his campaign promises for the first 100 days with the exception of appointing Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.  His promise to begin building a border wall with Mexico has been abandoned for now as he couldn’t get any approval for early funding. His plans to repeal, then reform, Obamacare have also been postponed as he was unable to push through a last-minute vote in Congress – despite that the Republicans control both Houses as well as the White House!  Trump, despite criticising President Obama for the number of executive orders he signed and promising that he would do away with most of such orders,  has signed a record number of executive orders including one in his early days in office to implement a travel ban on Muslims entering the United States from selected countries and another one just yesterday that will allow drilling to take place in the Arctic.  The former of these executive orders was quickly scuppered by courts which struck it down. Trump’s use of executive orders reflects his inability to gain consensus on any Bills.

I was planning to write much more on Trump’s 100 days in office, but haven’t the time. Therefore I have listed below several articles from various sources on the occasion and on the events of the President’s first 100 days in office, which he marks as possibly the most unpopular President in history.  The last 100 days have been ones of division and anger that have changed the perception of the US Presidency for ever. Donald Trump has thrown the rule book out of the window and broken the mould and has left the United States and the world dizzy with confusion, anger and fear over how he will execute the office he now holds. Lack of any significant achievements on the policy front in the first 100 days doesn’t bode well for the rest of his Presidency, which still has 1,362 days to go!
